How Does YOUR Garden Grow?

Here are some of the most important terms which one should be familiar as a new or seasoned Gardener...
Soil TEXTURE: This is simply the size ranges of the mineral particles that make up a particular soil. Defined in three basic classes like Clay (small), Silt (medium) and Sand (large). Very seldom is a soil purely one type so the description may read as sandy clay or silty clay. A soil with equal parts of each is called LOAM.
A soil that aggregates or clumps together into larger pieces is considered having STRUCTURE. Soil with poor structure leaves roots gasping for air. Good structure creates small pores to hold water and large pores to hold air. ORGANIC MATTER can help manage soil to give it better structure.
A FRIABLE soil gently crumbles when you squeeze it; TILTH is the physical condition as far as plants are concerned. WELL-DRAINED soil allows water to move through the soil reaching the root system.
