From Farmland to Prestigious Laurel Lakes

Originally pasture land, Laurel Lakes was created from Barton Farms in the late 1990s. Carved from the rich environment and developed into an upscale neighborhood, it is situated between The Hammocks and Laurel Oaks Country Club to the south and west respectively. Laurel Lakes is a gated community with entrances on Palmer Boulevard at the east and Iona Road at the north.

Local developer Rex Horton bought the acreage and began putting in the infrastructure. Lennar Homes stepped in during 2000 to purchase lots and build model homes. Many people considered it the “boondocks” and “way out” there! Several early residents were thrilled to see wildlife running across their backyard however, and around the lakes. They’ve remarked about the peaceful tranquil setting that still pleases them.

The largest original pasture lake is spring-fed and provides fresh water for the other man-made lakes in the development. Of the 321 homes in Laurel Lakes, less than 15% are not on a lake and they have the advantage of lush vegetative separation from neighbors providing a higher degree of privacy.

When Lennar Homes bought U.S. Homes, it began to offer models formerly available only through that entity. Model Variety expanded offering great choices in size and configuration: 1,900 – 3,000 square feet, 3 – 4 bedroom homes with pricing in the $300s and $400s. Most popular architectural style appears to be the Florida Contemporary with Mediterranean accents with slate or barrel tile roofs. You’ll find expansive ceiling heights also, some at 12 feet!
